Four Decades of the Südpfälzisches Kammerorchester

Founded in the mid-1980s, the Südpfälzisches Kammerorchester has become an integral part of the Südpfalz music scene over four decades. Built on a core of dedicated musicians from Landau and the surrounding area, the orchestra cultivates a broad repertoire ranging from Baroque to modern.

Charlotte Vitek as Artistic Director

Since her appointment as choirmaster of the Stiftskirche Landau, Charlotte Vitek has also taken over the artistic direction of the SKO. Under her leadership, the ensemble has expanded its repertoire and performs regularly in the Stiftskirche as well as at other venues in the region.

Program of the Anniversary Concert

The 2026 anniversary program brings together three very different composers: Gustav Holst – best known for the orchestral suite 'The Planets' – represents English late Romanticism. Hermann Schroeder, a German composer and church musician of the 20th century, represents a modern tonal language often influenced by church music. Ludwig van Beethoven, as a classical repertoire cornerstone, connects the program with the core repertoire of the string orchestra.

The late Gothic Protestant Stiftskirche Landau, with its excellent acoustics, provides a fitting setting for a chamber orchestra concert of this magnitude. The historic sacred architecture underscores the festive character of the anniversary.
