District anniversary with festival week in Oberhausen
The Oberhausen district of Königshardt was first documented in 1776 and is celebrating its 250th anniversary in 2026 — with a grand festival week that sets the entire district's life in motion. From Friday, July 3 to Sunday, July 12, 2026, the Königshardt Interest Group (KIG), along with clubs, parishes, and volunteers, will present ten days of programming at the IGPF Höhenweg and at various locations in the neighbourhood.
Opening ceremony with traditional keg tapping by the mayor(s) and KIG board. Stage opening at IGPF Höhenweg.
The big rock music festival featuring bands MOTTEK and Yesterday Allstars. Sold out (as of May 2026).
The "Lange Tafel Königshardt" — a communal outdoor dinner with the Dutch band Knollentrekkers. Culinary programme by local gastronomy, festive table atmosphere.
Ecumenical church service. Opening of the photo exhibition "250 Years Königshardt" with a concert by the local Big Band.
Talent Showcase featuring music, poetry, and acrobatics — a stage for local talents from the district.
Children's and youth formats. School project performances.
Grand Day of the Clubs featuring presentations by all Königshardt clubs and groups — sports, culture, social work, scouts.
Grand historical parade with floats and groups depicting the 250-year history of Königshardt. Closing ceremony at Höhenweg.
The organiser is the Königshardt Interest Group (KIG) — a community-driven association that preserves the district's identity. For the anniversary, several working groups are collaborating: infrastructure, programme, catering, sponsoring, and the parade. A 250-year anniversary T-shirt (€20) helps finance the festival; sponsorship memberships starting at €60 include a commemorative pin.
Königshardt is one of Oberhausen's northern districts — historically shaped by its mining tradition (Zeche Osterfeld) and the iron and steel industry. With approximately 8,000 inhabitants, it is a compact district with a distinct identity. The KIG's activities — from district festivals to anniversary programmes — serve as a model for community-driven district work in the Ruhr area.
