Festive event on Kirn's market square for the 150th anniversary of the Volunteer Fire Brigade
The Kirn Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded in 1876, marking 150 years of voluntary service in 2026. During this time, the brigade has evolved from a small citizen watch to a modern emergency unit, which today ensures fire protection and technical assistance in and around Kirn with contemporary equipment, trained personnel, and a dense network of helpers.
Kirn's market square provides the central festive backdrop for the anniversary. The festival tent will be erected here, fire brigade demonstrations will take place here, and historical and modern emergency vehicles will be presented here. The square is centrally located in the townscape and allows for the participation of the entire Kirn town population.
The program is designed to be family-friendly. For children, there are activities related to everyday fire brigade life: they can inspect emergency vehicles up close, handle a fire hose, try on protective gear, and participate in games. Adults can experience demonstrations of emergency technology and talk to the firefighters about fire protection and volunteering.
Beyond the festival program, the anniversary is a tribute to the voluntary commitment that sustains volunteer fire brigades in Germany. The men and women of the Kirn Fire Brigade are ready 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to help their fellow citizens in emergencies. The anniversary offers an opportunity to publicly honor this dedication and recruit new members.
The 2026 anniversary celebration marks an extraordinary date in the history of the Kirn Fire Brigade. 150 years of voluntary service deserve fitting recognition, which the festival program implements with dedication and variety.
The detailed program for 2026, including start times and individual program points, will be published by the Kirn Volunteer Fire Brigade in early summer.
