Three days of anniversary festival for the 150th anniversary of the Oderberg Volunteer Fire Brigade
When a volunteer fire brigade turns 150 years old, it's more than just an internal celebration in a small town like Oderberg – it's a civic festival. Founded in 1876, the Oderberg Volunteer Fire Brigade has been the backbone of safety on the Oder-Havel Canal for five generations. From September 4th to 6th, 2026, the town will celebrate the anniversary with a three-day festival on the brigade's premises.
The program begins on Friday, September 4th, at 10:30 AM and ends on Sunday, September 6th, around 10:00 PM. Expected are vehicle shows with historical and modern emergency vehicles, demonstrations by the active brigade and the youth fire brigade, a parade through Oderberg, a stage program with live music, and regional culinary offerings. Friendly brigades from the Barnim district and the neighboring country of Poland are expected as guests.
The anniversary festival is organized by the association Perspektive Oderberg e.V., which has been shaping the cultural life of the small town for years. Between the harbor, the shipping museum, and the historic town center, Oderberg relies on a good mix of traditional civic engagement and contemporary culture – and the fire brigade's anniversary festival fits perfectly into this self-image.
Oderberg is located in the Barnim district on the Oder-Havel Canal, nestled between the Barnim Nature Park and the Schorfheide-Chorin, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The town is known for its historic harbor, the inland navigation museum, and its close proximity to the Polish Oderbruch – a perfect setting for an anniversary festival that combines tradition, water, and neighborliness.
The anniversary festival begins on Friday, September 4th, around 10:30 AM and ends on Sunday, September 6th, around 10:00 PM. During the three days, the history of the brigade and the exchange with friendly fire brigades will be the focus.
The festival is a mix of civic festival, technical show, and association anniversary – supported by the association Perspektive Oderberg e.V. and the Oderberg Volunteer Fire Brigade itself.
