Grand Shrove Tuesday Parade of the City of Zweibrücken with over 1200 participants
Zweibrücken is located in the Palatinate-Saarland border region and culturally and festively belongs to the southwestern German Fasenacht tradition. Unlike the Rhenish-influenced carnival strongholds of Mainz, Koblenz, and Cologne, the Palatinate uses the term "Fasenacht" and celebrates the festive climax on Shrove Tuesday – the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, which is traditionally marked here with the grand city parade.
The Zweibrücker Fasenachtsumzug, with over 1200 active participants and 49 groups, is one of the largest carnival parades in the region. Carnival clubs, guards, Funkenmariechen (carnival dancers), music bands, floats with political and satirical motifs, walking groups, and children's groups form a festive procession lasting several hours, transforming the city center into a festival ground.
The start is at 2:11 PM in Saarlandstraße. The route leads via Landauerstraße, Alte Ixheimer Straße, Lützelstraße, Fruchtmarktstraße, and Hauptstraße to Schlossplatz, where the parade will disperse. Afterwards, the festive activities continue in the marquees, pubs, and clubhouses of the city center until the late evening.
The Verkehrsverein Zweibrücken, together with the City of Zweibrücken, bears the organizational responsibility. Traffic regulations, safety concepts, and road closures will be published in advance on zweibruecken.de and in the local media. Due to the high number of visitors, travel by public transport or on foot is recommended.
The Zweibrücker Shrove Tuesday parade 2026 continues the decades-long tradition. With its size, diversity, and consistently preserved Palatinate style, it is one of the defining Fasenacht parades in southwestern Germany.
Road closures and detours in the city center are to be expected. Current information available at zweibruecken.de and pfalzdigital.de.
