Mobile exhibition of the SchUM Cities as guest at the Worms Wine Mile on April 25th and 26th, 2026
The three Rhenish cities Speyer, Worms and Mainz — combined in the Hebrew acronym SchUM (Speyer = Schpira, Worms = Warmaisa, Mainz = Magenza) — were designated UNESCO World Heritage in 2021. In the Middle Ages, they formed the intellectual centre of Ashkenazi Judaism in Central Europe and are today preserved with synagogues, mikvahs, cemeteries and houses of learning as exceptional testimonies of Jewish faith and life.
The SchUMobil is an elaborate mobile exhibition that conveys the history and significance of the SchUM cities at changing locations in the region and beyond. In a fold-out, modular container, it presents texts, graphics, audiovisual stations and interactive elements. The goal is to show the World Heritage at places where it is not self-evidently present: folk festivals, city festivals, schools and public squares.
The 4th Worms Wine Mile takes place in 2026 from April 23rd to 26th in the Stadtmauergraben. The SchUMobil joins the Wine Mile for the last two days — April 25th and 26th. This connects the enjoyment-oriented Worms spring wine festival with a cultural educational element and makes the World Heritage visible to an audience that comes to the Worms city centre specifically for the Wine Mile.
The Worms appearance of the SchUMobil is part of the anniversary program Jerusalem on the Rhine 2026, organized by the SchUM cities and the SchUM association together with partners in Israel. Throughout the year, exhibitions, concerts, lecture series, synagogue concerts, workshops and pilgrimages dedicated to the Jewish history of the Rhineland take place in Speyer, Worms and Mainz.
During the two SchUMobil days, mediators of the SchUM association are on site and answer questions about the history of the SchUM cities, the Worms Jewish heritage (synagogue, mikvah, Heiliger Sand) and the anniversary program. The exhibition is free of charge.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the SchUM association in spring. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
