Run Event with Saga Connection
Since its premiere in 2003, the Wormser Nibelungenlauf has been a firm fixture in the Rheinhessen running calendar. What makes the run special is its connection to the Nibelungen saga and Worms' city history: the course runs along historically significant sites – Hagendenkmal, Kriemhilds Rosengarten, Worms Rhine promenade. The link to the Nibelungen city is intentional and makes the run an experience beyond just athletic performance.
New Festival Site on the Rhine Promenade
In 2026, the event will take place at a new festival site on the Rhine promenade – directly on the river, in one of the city's most attractive locations. The start and finish areas, transition zones, refreshment stands, and festival tent will be concentrated here; the course leads along the Rhine promenade and through adjacent green areas.
Distances and Competitions
The run offers a wide spectrum of distances, appealing to everyone from beginners to ambitious half marathon runners: Half Marathon (21.0975 km, DLV-measured, suitable for official best times), 10 km run in two categories (runners and walkers), 5 km run in several age groups (women's run, seniors' run from 60 years, pupil races of various age classes). There are separate award ceremonies for each category.
DLV Measurement and Competition Character
The courses are officially measured by the German Athletics Association (DLV), so personal best times can be counted for rankings. This makes the Nibelungenlauf attractive for competitive runners who are not only looking for a popular run atmosphere but also need an officially recognized course.
Registration and Festival Atmosphere
The registration deadline is September 6th, 2026; late registration on race day (September 12th) is possible. After the competitions, the winners will be honored in the festival tent on the Rhine promenade; a cozy get-together with food and live music will conclude the day. The Wormser Nibelungenlauf combines top athletic performance with the unique atmosphere of the Nibelungen city.
