About World Press Photo Oldenburg

The World Press Photo Exhibition is coming to Oldenburg for the eleventh time in 2026. From February 21 to March 15, 2026, the Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte in Oldenburg Castle will showcase the award-winning press photographs from the World Press Photo Contest. The 2026 Photo of the Year was taken by Samar Abu Elouf and depicts a scene from Gaza. The opening will be held by Iranian-Canadian photographer Kiana Hayeri. Open Tuesday to Sunday 10 am to 6 pm, Thursday and Friday until 8 pm. Admission €9, concessions €6.

The World Press Photo Exhibition is one of the most renowned travelling press photography exhibitions in the world. It showcases the award-winning works of the World Press Photo Contest, which has been organised annually by the foundation of the same name in Amsterdam since 1955. The exhibition tours dozens of cities worldwide; Oldenburg has been a German stop for eleven years.

With its 11th edition, the exhibition is firmly established in Oldenburg. It is regularly one of the Landesmuseum's most visited special exhibitions.

Photo of the Year 2026: Samar Abu Elouf

The award-winning Photo of the Year for 2026 was taken by photographer Samar Abu Elouf. It depicts a scene from Gaza, placing it at the centre of an exhibition that repeatedly highlights the major crises and conflicts of our time.

Opening by Kiana Hayeri

The opening will be presented by Iranian-Canadian photographer Kiana Hayeri, whose work has appeared in publications such as The New York Times Magazine, National Geographic, and The New Yorker. Hayeri is one of the most important contemporary voices in documentary photography.

Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte

The venue is Oldenburg Castle, the main building of the Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte. The exhibition spaces within the castle provide a fitting setting for the World Press Photo Exhibition.
