Community breakfast at long tables on the market square
The "City Breakfast" format has become a model in many medium-sized and larger German cities in recent years: The city provides tables, tablecloths, and crockery, and the citizens bring their own breakfast to meet for a communal meal at long tables in a central square. Wittlich hosts this event on the historic market square in front of the old town hall.
On Saturday morning, starting around 9:00 AM, the long tables begin to be set up. Clubs, neighborhoods, groups of friends, and families reserve spots at the long tables, which are arranged in several rows across the market square. Some bring everything themselves – from picnic baskets to thermos flasks – while others buy rolls, croissants, spreads, and coffee at the breakfast stands around the square, set up by Wittlich's restaurants and bakeries.
A stage with live music – usually jazz, acoustic pop, or singer-songwriters – provides the musical accompaniment. The mayor or city representatives give short welcome speeches, and some clubs present their work. For children, there are craft activities, face painting, or a small accompanying program. Those who have finished breakfast can then go shopping in Wittlich's city center, stroll through the old town, or continue their day at a café.

The exact 2026 program will be published by the City of Wittlich in the summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Wittlich is accessible via the A1 motorway (Wittlich exit) and Wittlich Hauptbahnhof (main train station). Parking is available around the market square in the city center, but it is heavily frequented on event mornings.
Seats at the long tables are usually limited and must be reserved in advance through the City of Wittlich; details and procedures are available on wittlich.de. Spontaneous participation is possible depending on availability.
Free admission. Bring your own breakfast or purchase it from the stands on site.
