About Winzerfest Ehrenbreitstein

The Winzerfest in Koblenz-Ehrenbreitstein is a traditional district festival in the district on the right bank of the Rhine at the foot of Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. Ehrenbreitstein is one of the four Koblenz wine-growing areas (alongside Güls, Lay, and Moselweiß) and the festival celebrates the connection between the district and viticulture. For several days, the historic town center transforms into an open wine mile with tasting stands from local vintners, catering, live music, and convivial gatherings. Those who want to combine the unique location between the Rhine and the fortress with wine culture will find an authentic event here. Detailed program for 2026 will be published in summer on koblenz.de.

Ehrenbreitstein is one of Koblenz's most historically rich districts – with the fortress of the same name, Festung Ehrenbreitstein, as an imposing crown high above the Rhine. The district on the right bank of the Rhine was an independent town for centuries before being incorporated into Koblenz in 1937. To this day, Ehrenbreitstein has retained its distinct character – with winding alleys, half-timbered houses, churches, and its own wine culture.

One of the Four Koblenz Wine-Growing Areas

Ehrenbreitstein is one of the four Koblenz wine-growing areas – alongside Güls, Lay, and Moselweiß. The vineyards stretch along the south-facing slopes above the Rhine and produce wines that benefit from the special microclimate of the narrow valley location. Primarily Pinot Noir and Riesling are grown here. Viticulture in Ehrenbreitstein is small and family-based – making the atmosphere all the more intimate when the vintners serve their wines at the district festival.

Winzerfest as a District Festival

The Winzerfest is a classic district festival with a focus on wine. In the historic town center – around the parish church or at the market square – vintners set up tasting stands, complemented by catering stands with local specialties, a stage with live music (often cover bands, acoustic duos, or local music clubs), and seating for lively summer evenings.

Connection with the Fortress and World Heritage Site

Visitors to the Winzerfest can combine the occasion with a visit to Festung Ehrenbreitstein above the district – accessible via the Koblenz cable car from the left bank of the Rhine or via the Festungsstraße (fortress road). This makes Ehrenbreitstein more than just a festival location: the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley can be experienced here in a very tangible way.

Date and Detailed Program

The exact date and detailed program for the Winzerfest Koblenz-Ehrenbreitstein 2026 will be published by the organizers (district association and participating vintners) in the summer on koblenz.de and via the local daily press. Traditional dates are in late summer or early autumn.
