District wine festival in historic Ehrenbreitstein below the fortress
Ehrenbreitstein is one of Koblenz's most historically rich districts – with the fortress of the same name, Festung Ehrenbreitstein, as an imposing crown high above the Rhine. The district on the right bank of the Rhine was an independent town for centuries before being incorporated into Koblenz in 1937. To this day, Ehrenbreitstein has retained its distinct character – with winding alleys, half-timbered houses, churches, and its own wine culture.
Ehrenbreitstein is one of the four Koblenz wine-growing areas – alongside Güls, Lay, and Moselweiß. The vineyards stretch along the south-facing slopes above the Rhine and produce wines that benefit from the special microclimate of the narrow valley location. Primarily Pinot Noir and Riesling are grown here. Viticulture in Ehrenbreitstein is small and family-based – making the atmosphere all the more intimate when the vintners serve their wines at the district festival.
The Winzerfest is a classic district festival with a focus on wine. In the historic town center – around the parish church or at the market square – vintners set up tasting stands, complemented by catering stands with local specialties, a stage with live music (often cover bands, acoustic duos, or local music clubs), and seating for lively summer evenings.
Visitors to the Winzerfest can combine the occasion with a visit to Festung Ehrenbreitstein above the district – accessible via the Koblenz cable car from the left bank of the Rhine or via the Festungsstraße (fortress road). This makes Ehrenbreitstein more than just a festival location: the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley can be experienced here in a very tangible way.
The exact date and detailed program for the Winzerfest Koblenz-Ehrenbreitstein 2026 will be published by the organizers (district association and participating vintners) in the summer on koblenz.de and via the local daily press. Traditional dates are in late summer or early autumn.
The 2026 Winzerfest in Koblenz-Ehrenbreitstein will follow the typical structure of a Rhine district wine festival. The exact date and detailed program will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure will follow the proven cornerstones of previous years.
