The Winter Market Carolinensiel with the Sea of Lights is one of the longest and most atmospheric winter markets on the East Frisian coast. From November 27, 2026 (Friday, 1st Advent) to January 1, 2027 – over five weeks – the historic Museumshafen Carolinensiel is transformed into a glittering winter landscape with a maritime flair.

The floating Christmas tree

One of the unmistakable symbols of the winter market is the floating, illuminated Christmas tree in the harbor basin. The tree stands on a platform in the middle of the Sielhafen and casts its light beams across the water – a photo opportunity that attracts visitors from all over the region. Its reflection in the still harbor water in the evening is one of the most beautiful sights of the East Frisian pre-Christmas season.

Sea of Lights and New Year's Eve laser show

The concept of "Sea of Lights" is reflected in the illumination of the entire harbor area: fairy lights, illuminated ships, lit-up rows of houses, and creative light installations create a special atmosphere. The highlight is the New Year's Eve laser show: instead of classic fireworks, the winter market stages the transition into the New Year with modern light projections over the harbor basin – a spectacle that impressively utilizes Carolinensiel's maritime character.

Opening hours – flexible and visitor-friendly

The winter market is open daily from 3 PM to 8 PM, and from 12 PM on weekends. This makes the market accessible to day-trippers as well as residents and seasonal guests. The evening opening hours are ideal for experiencing the illumination in all its glory.
