A Wine Festival in the City of Peace
Osnabrück lies far from the classic German wine-growing regions – and that is precisely why the WEINsommer has had a special appeal for over three decades. Over 50 vintners from all over Germany bring their wines to the Osnabrück market square, transforming the city center into a stage for German wine culture for four days.
Market Square as a Festival Backdrop
The historic market square, with views of the town hall and St. Mary's Church, provides the ideal backdrop for a summer wine festival. Long tables, standing tables, vintner stalls, and a small stage for musical accompaniment create a relaxed, convivial atmosphere. Thousands of visitors from the city and the region meet here for a pleasant glass of wine, for expert discussions with the vintners, or to catch up with friends.
Diversity of German Wine-Growing Regions
The participating vintners come from all major German wine-growing regions: Mosel, Rheingau, Pfalz, Rheinhessen, Baden, Württemberg, Franken, Nahe, Saale-Unstrut, and Sachsen are represented, as well as smaller growing regions. This makes the WEINsommer offer a diversity that is otherwise only found at major wine trade fairs.
Program Structure
The market square opens for four days with different times: Thursday and Friday from 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM each day for the long summer evening, Saturday from 2:00 PM for the cozy afternoon, and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM for a relaxed family conclusion. Live music acts accompany the events.
