Anniversary edition of the Leer Wine Festival in the historic Town Hall courtyard
Wine in East Frisia — an unusual combination at first glance. But for a quarter of a century, Weinfest Leer has proven that the far north offers a receptive audience for high-quality wines. The 25th edition in 2026 marks a significant anniversary.
Leer's 19th-century Town Hall, with its courtyard, provides an architectural setting that meets the demands of a wine festival. The courtyard, shielded by the surrounding buildings, creates an intimate atmosphere conducive to focusing on the wines. Daylight during the day and atmospheric lighting in the evening shape the mood.
Weinfest Leer traditionally presents wines from various German growing regions. Mosel Rieslings, Rheingau Weissburgunders, Palatinate red wines, Baden specialties — the selection offers a representative cross-section of German wine culture. Individual wineries are often personally present to introduce their wines and answer questions.
The format of the wine festival focuses on tasting culture. Visitors can purchase individual glasses, specifically try different wines, and receive advice. This focus on quality and knowledge about the wines distinguishes the format from purely social wine festivals.
Cheese, bread, spreads, and Mediterranean specialties accompany the wine tasting. This culinary component is not just a side dish but part of the concept: wine and food complement each other, and the right pairing makes the experience complete.
With its 25th edition, the wine festival marks a remarkable anniversary. Over the years, it has evolved from a small event into a fixed date on Leer's summer calendar, attracting wine connoisseurs from all over East Frisia.
The 2026 edition marks the silver jubilee of Weinfest Leer. Touristik & Marketing Leer has conceived an expanded program that reflects the significance of the anniversary.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the proven key points:
Rathaushof Leer, 26789 Leer (East Frisia).
