Altenahr in the Valley of the Ahr Loop
Altenahr is located in one of the most spectacular spots in the Ahr Valley: the Ahr river flows here in a tight loop around the rocky spur on which the Are Castle ruins are enthroned. The landscape offers a natural festival backdrop that the Weinfest Altenahr has been utilizing for years. The festival grounds are conveniently located at the parking lot of the former cable car and are easily accessible from the town center as well as the train station.
Three Days, Three Moods
On Friday, the festival opens with live music starting at 8 PM. Folk and country sounds suit the evening in the mountains. On Saturday, the stage program begins as early as 3:30 PM and ranges from Kölsch-rock to chart hits and classic cover bands. On Sunday, a musical Frühschoppen starting at 11 AM is on the program, letting the festival wind down in a relaxed atmosphere.
Mittelahr Wines at the Center
The Mittelahr, with its steep slate slopes, is one of Germany's best-known Spätburgunder regions. At the Weinfest Altenahr, winemakers from the village and neighboring wine villages present their current vintages. Regional specialties such as Flammkuchen, Reibekuchen, and Winzervesper are served as culinary accompaniments.
By Train to the Festival Valley
The Ahrtalbahn (RB 30) stops directly at Altenahr station. From there, it's only a few minutes' walk to the festival grounds. Traveling by train is particularly recommended, as parking in Altenahr is scarce on festival days, and the atmosphere of the town can be best experienced on foot.
