Four-day wine festival in Alte Moselstraße – the traditional second weekend of July on the Untermosel
Löf is located on the right bank of the Moselle in the Mayen-Koblenz district, between the well-known Moselle towns of Lehmen and Hatzenport. The municipality comprises the districts of Löf and Kattenes and belongs to the Untermosel collective municipality. With around 1,300 inhabitants, Löf is a typical Moselle wine village: small alleys, slate-roofed houses, wineries, and a direct location on the river.
Every year on the second weekend of July, Löf hosts its Wine and Homeland Festival. The event begins on Friday, July 10th, 2026, at 7:00 PM and ends on Monday, July 13th, 2026, at 7:00 PM – four continuous days of wine festival, giving it the character of a small marathon festival. The festival grounds are Alte Moselstraße, the historic street along the Moselle riverbank that formed the original main traffic axis of the village and is now ideal for setting up a festival tent and stands.
The focus is on the Moselle wines from local vintners and the wider Untermosel region. The Untermosel is known for its steep slopes where Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Elbling, and Spätburgunder thrive. Slate soils give the wines their characteristic minerality.
The four-day format allows for differentiated daily characteristics: Friday is the opening evening with the tapping of the first keg and initial live music. Saturday brings the grand festival evening with dancing and a live band. Sunday is dedicated to the family with a morning pint (Frühschoppen), lunch, a children's program, and activities for all generations. Monday is traditionally a quieter day with a Frühschoppen, allowing the festival to wind down cozily.
Löf is located directly on the Moselle Cycle Path and is easily accessible by the Moselbahn (Löf station). Those planning a summer wine-hiking holiday can combine the wine festival with stages on the Moselle Cycle Path, hikes on the Moselsteig trail, or boat trips. The neighboring communities of Kattenes (with its own wine festival in June), Hatzenport (wine festival at the end of July), and Kobern-Gondorf also offer ample opportunities for wine festival hopping.
The 2026 edition continues the annual tradition. Detailed program points will be published by the local municipality of Löf via loef-weinfest.de and loef-kattenes.de.
