Prüm is one of the most historically significant towns in the Eifel region—the seat of a medieval imperial abbey and the current administrative center of the Prüm collective municipality in the Bitburg-Prüm district. The town, with its venerable St. Salvator Basilica and the Johannismarkt in its historic center, offers a special backdrop for a Christmas market.

Decorated Market Stalls

At Johannismarkt—the central square of the town—market stalls are set up during the Advent season, lovingly decorated with fir branches, fairy lights, and festive ornaments. Regional artisans offer their goods in these stalls: handmade Christmas decorations, wooden figures, candles, carvings, jewelry, Eifel specialties, and gift ideas. The selection is regionally focused and offers a pleasant contrast to the standardized Christmas markets of large cities.

Mulled Wine, Punch, and Chocolate

Mulled wine, mulled punch, non-alcoholic children's punch, hot chocolate—these warm drinks are essential to every Christmas market, and in Prüm, they are prepared with care. They are complemented by roasted almonds, potato pancakes, bratwurst, crêpes, and sweet treats. Eifel specialties such as mead or apple punch complete the offerings.

Musical Program

On Fridays from 5 PM, musical accompaniment is regularly planned—on the opening Friday, the Musikverein 1834 Prüm traditionally performs at 7:30 PM. On Saturdays, an art workshop for children aged 10 to 4 PM is on the program, along with a vintage carousel starting at noon. This mix of adult programming and children's activities makes the market a family experience.
