Atmospheric Advent market on the 1st Advent weekend around the village community center in the Peine district
The Hohenhameln Christmas Market is one of those small, authentic Advent markets that make pre-Christmas Lower Saxony so endearing. Instead of gigantic stall miles, visitors can expect a manageable, family-friendly atmosphere here: one square, one village community center, good neighborliness. It is precisely this focus on the essentials that gives the event its special charm.
The market traditionally opens on the Saturday of the first Advent weekend, usually at 2 PM. Until the evening – usually until around 9 PM – the fairy lights shine over the decorated stalls, and the scents of roasted almonds, mulled wine, and bratwurst waft through the cool winter air.
The range of stalls is supported year after year by a mix of associations, school classes, private individuals, and local craftspeople. Typical offerings include:
Many of the stalls are run by volunteers, the proceeds of which benefit projects for club activities, youth support, or social causes in Hohenhameln.
The market is usually accompanied musically by performances from local choirs, the brass band, or the primary school. For children, there is a small craft corner in the warm interior of the village community center, and sometimes a visit from St. Nicholas. This creates a program that doesn't rely on a big stage but on shared experiences.
Hohenhameln is located between Hildesheim, Peine, and Hanover and is easily accessible via the L 410 and regional bus lines. Those planning a pre-Christmas tour of the district often combine a visit with the markets in Vechelde, Wendeburg, or Ilsede-Gadenstedt, which also take place on the first Advent weekend.
With the start of Advent, the Hohenhameln village community center invites you to the traditional one-day Christmas market. The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the fall. Chalet stalls from local associations, mulled wine and snack offerings, as well as musical accompaniment by choirs and brass bands from the region are expected.
The market seamlessly follows the other Advent markets in the Peine district and is ideal as a kickoff for a pre-Christmas tour through Vechelde, Wendeburg, and Ilsede.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the fall. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
