Advent market in the medieval old town – on all four Advent weekends
The old town of Ahrweiler is one of the few completely preserved medieval town layouts in Germany. The city wall with its four gates frames the historic city center; the closed rows of half-timbered houses along Ahrhutstraße, Niederhutstraße, and the market square form an impressive backdrop. When the lights come on in Advent, an atmospheric setting emerges here, unique in the entire region.
The Christmas market extends over all four Advent weekends. This makes it one of the longer-running Advent events in the Ahr Valley, giving day-trippers from Cologne, Bonn, Koblenz, and the Rhein-Sieg district ample opportunity to visit. The city gates remain open, allowing the market to flow seamlessly into the old town alleys.
Lovingly decorated wooden huts offer arts and crafts, Advent arrangements, wooden objects, ceramics, jewelry, and regional specialties. Mulled wine, eggnog, bratwurst, potato pancakes, tarte flambée, and sweet Christmas treats provide the culinary accompaniment. Several stages and stands are used for live performances and reading sessions.
In addition to professional stall operators, numerous clubs, schools, and initiatives from Ahrweiler participate. This makes the market more than just a tourist event: it is also a social meeting point for the town's community. Family weekends with special children's programs round off the offerings.
The program includes musical stage performances on several weekends, reading sessions for children, club activities, and special events.
The exact program of stage performances and special events will be published in advance at ahrweilerweihnachtsmarkt.de.
