Waxweiler Oktoberfest

The Waxweiler Oktoberfest is the annual community Volksfest (traditional folk festival) of the Eifel municipality of Waxweiler on German Unity Day. By choosing October 3rd, the municipality uses the nationwide public holiday for a festival that combines Bavarian Oktoberfest tradition with Eifel local flavor.

Oktoberfest Tradition Meets Eifel

In recent decades, the Oktoberfest concept has spread from Munich throughout Germany and beyond. Even small communities like Waxweiler adopt the format and combine it with their own traditions. This creates a mix of Lederhosen and Dirndls, pretzels and Schwenkbraten (grilled meat skewers), Maßkrug (liter beer mugs) and Bitburger draft beer – an enjoyable stylistic festival with a local touch.

Program on October 3rd

The program includes classic Oktoberfest elements:

• Festival tent with long beer benches
• Live music with Oktoberfest hits, brass bands, or cover bands
• Maßkrugstemmen (stein holding contest) and similar competitions
• Traditional costumes welcome (but not mandatory)
• Eifel and Bavarian specialties: Schwenkbraten, Bratwurst (sausage), Hendl (roast chicken), Brezn (pretzels), Weißwurst (white sausage)

Harvest Festival and Farmers' Market on the Following Day

On Sunday, October 4, 2026, the Oktoberfest will be followed by the Harvest Festival with a farmers' market. The festival service in the local church gives thanks for the year's harvest; afterwards, regional producers present their products – fruits, vegetables, sausages, cheese, honey, bread, and autumn decorations. This creates an extended weekend of festival culture and regional products.

Significance for Waxweiler

With the Oktoberfest on October 3rd, Waxweiler adds another significant date to its event calendar, alongside the Kirmes (funfair) in September and the Eifel Marathon in June. The public holiday allows for a relaxed festival atmosphere and attracts visitors from neighboring towns and the wider region.
