Bad Harzburg — Health Resort at the Foot of the Brocken
Bad Harzburg is a state-recognized brine spa town on the northern edge of the Harz Mountains. With its location at the foot of the Brocken — the mythical witch mountain of Walpurgis Night — and its tradition as a spa and recreation resort, the town offers a special atmosphere for Walpurgis celebrations. The Sportpark in the west of the town provides a spacious, easily accessible area for large events.
Two Program Parts — Children's Walpurgis and Evening Celebration
The concept of Walpurgis in the Sportpark deliberately distinguishes between two program parts: the Children's Walpurgis starting at 5:30 PM is aimed at families with children and offers child-friendly Walpurgis entertainment — with witches, sorcerers, small show acts, craft activities, and a program suitable for children. Starting at 7 PM, the grand evening celebration for an adult audience follows.
DJ Instead of Live Music — Conscious Decision for 2026
In 2026, organizer Andreas Schrutek has consciously forgone live bands and entrusted the music program to a DJ. This decision was made to continue ensuring free admission to the event: live bands are more expensive than DJs, and the cost savings are channeled into the concept of free admission. The DJ will provide a varied set that carries the Walpurgis atmosphere and invites the audience to dance.
Up to 2,000 Visitors Expected
Organizers expect up to 2,000 visitors. The spacious grounds of the Sportpark offer ample space for this number, and free admission makes the festival accessible to everyone. Food stalls offering bratwurst, fries, crêpes, beer, mulled wine, and non-alcoholic drinks will cater to the guests.
Walpurgis Fireworks at 11 PM
The grand finale of the festival will be the large Walpurgis fireworks display at 11 PM. A pyrotechnic show lasting several minutes will unfold over the Sportpark, bringing the magical Walpurgis theme to a spectacular close.
Andreas Schrutek as Organizer
Behind the organization of the festival is Andreas Schrutek, who has managed the concept with great dedication for years. His conscious decision for free admission and a DJ program in 2026 shows his commitment to maintaining the Walpurgis festival as an accessible, family-friendly event in Bad Harzburg's event calendar.
