Motto Village and Beetroot — Sunday, May 17, 2026
The Walmsburg Village Festival is a remarkable example of how a village of 500 inhabitants can become a mini-festival attracting thousands of visitors. In 2026, the festival celebrates its 10th edition on Sunday, May 17. The motto: Village and Beetroot.
Walmsburg is a district of the Elbe town Bleckede, with just around 500 residents. Yet, the village festival has earned a reputation in recent years that extends far beyond its local borders. With a fine selection of programs and a loving atmosphere, the festival attracts visitors from the entire Lüneburg district.
The highlights of this edition:
The motto Village and Beetroot refers to the agricultural tradition of Walmsburg and the region. Beetroot — especially sugar beet — is a typical agricultural product of the Elbe floodplain. The motto is creatively implemented in decorations, food, and the program.
Despite growing visitor numbers, the Walmsburg Village Festival remains a village community festival: organized by residents for residents and guests. This volunteer structure explains its special charm — not an anonymous Volksfest, but an authentic summer festival with substance.
