In 2025, the Volksfest Neukirch/Lausitz was canceled — the municipal administration decided to take a break for organizational reasons. The festival returns in 2026 with an expanded program. This short hiatus underscores the voluntary nature of the festival — all helpers are members of clubs and citizens of the community.
The break in 2025 is a common phenomenon for small folk festivals in the Bautzen district: when the volunteer organizing team reaches its limits or showman bookings don't work out, the festival is preferably paused rather than carried out at a lower standard. The municipality of Neukirch/Lausitz communicated the decision early and simultaneously announced the comeback in 2026.
In 2026, the Volksfest will run again in its usual format — with "Alpenflug", beer tasting, laser show, and family day.
