Pentecost Weekend in Lengede

While other shooting festivals in the district of Peine focus on midsummer or spring, the Volks- und Schützenfest Lengede has secured the Pentecost weekend as a fixed date. This choice has advantages and disadvantages: the mild May or June weather is usually favorable, but at the same time, the festival competes with numerous other Pentecost events in Lower Saxony. Lengede has been successfully asserting itself for years as a major attraction in the southern district.

Two Clubs, One Festival

The festival is jointly organized by the KKSV Lengede (small-bore rifle club) and the Volksfestgemeinschaft Lengede. This cooperation distributes the organizational burden to two strong shoulders and ensures the continuity of the event over the years. The KKSV is responsible for the shooting-related part with the king's shooting and coronation ceremony, while the Volksfestgemeinschaft takes care of the amusement park, the marquee operations, and catering.

Large Amusement Park

Unlike smaller village folk festivals, the Volks- und Schützenfest Lengede offers an extensive amusement park with sophisticated rides. The Break Dance from the Hainlein showman family, the Twister by Eick, the Drive In 2.0 by Dieckmann, and the Horror Labyrinth by Eick are the main attractions. In addition, there are carousels for younger visitors, shooting galleries, snack stands, and classic market stalls. This gives the festival the appeal of an urban funfair.

Marquee and Dance Events

The marquee at the Schachtweg festival grounds is the social center during all festival days. Catering, live music, and dance events shape the proceedings. The shooting ball on Saturday evening is the social highlight of the weekend and attracts a broad audience from the entire district of Peine.

Parade and King's Shooting

The traditional parade on Sunday leads from the festival grounds through the village of Lengede and back. Accompanied by music clubs and fellow shooting clubs, the participants march through the streets in uniform. The king's shooting determines the new monarchs, whose festive proclamation in the marquee is the emotional climax of the festival.
