Four days of tradition, party fun, and music at the biennial Schützenfest
Every two years, the people of Holzminden celebrate their Großes Volks- und Schützenfest, one of the defining events of the district town in the Weserbergland. In 2026, the festival tent on the Steinbreite festival grounds will open its doors from August 22 to 25 for four days of customs and festive joy.
On Friday, August 22, the festival week kicks off with the Hollorca evening, bringing Mallorca party atmosphere to Holzminden's summer festivities. On stage will be Anna-Maria Zimmermann, Norman Langen, and Olaf Henning. DJ Sonoro will accompany the evening with Schlager classics and current party hits.
Saturday and Sunday are dedicated to classic shooting club traditions. The Grünholen, where the marksmen ceremonially fetch greenery for the festival decoration, opens the ceremonies. This is followed by the flag throws at Haarmannplatz, where clubs introduce themselves, and the storming of the barricades in Wallstraße. The royal proclamation and the subsequent marksmen's proclamation form the ceremonial core, naming the new dignitaries of the club.
On Monday, August 25, the program begins at 9:00 AM with the traditional Frühschoppen in the festival tent. At 12:30 PM, the Wolfgang Petry double show follows, electrifying the tent with classics like 'Wahnsinn' and 'Verlieben, verloren'.
Throughout the four days, the Steinbreite festival grounds transform into a funfair with carousels, amusement rides, food, and drink stalls. The Schützenfest thus combines club tradition with the character of a classic North German fairground.
As a biennial event, the 2026 edition is eagerly anticipated. The Holzmindener Schützengesellschaft has combined the festival program in its proven form with traditional shooting club customs and a popular stage program. The festival grounds, Haarmannplatz, and Wallstraße are the main venues.
Festplatz Steinbreite, 37603 Holzminden. Other locations: Haarmannplatz, Wallstraße (city area).
Admission to the festival grounds is free. Individual carousels and rides are subject to a charge.
