UNESCO World Heritage Day at Rammelsberg and in Goslar on June 7, 2026, from 11 AM to 5 PM — Free admission with steam locomotive Fabian, bouncy castle, free Imperial Palace visit, and shuttle.
The UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Goslar region comprises three spatially interconnected components: the Rammelsberg Mine (inscribed 1992), the Old Town of Goslar (1992), and the Upper Harz Water Management System (2010). Together, they form a unique cultural landscape where over 1,000 years of mining history are visible and tangible. UNESCO World Heritage Day celebrates this extraordinary cultural significance with free admission and a festive program.
UNESCO World Heritage Day is celebrated annually on the first Sunday in June under a nationwide motto. The 2026 motto is “Do Good and Talk About It,” focusing on appreciating and communicating the work related to World Heritage. This day provides an opportunity not only to visit the World Heritage sites but also to reflect on their importance and the efforts behind them.
Admission to World Heritage Day is free. At the Rammelsberg Mining Museum, visitors can explore the exhibitions, participate in special guided tours, and experience the underground areas. The Goslar Imperial Palace is also accessible free of charge, offering an impressive journey into the High Middle Ages.
One of the most popular program elements is the steam locomotive Fabian, which transports people around the Rammelsberg mine site. With its characteristic whistle, steam, and historical appeal, it embodies the industrial past of mining and delights children and railway enthusiasts alike.
For families, there is a bouncy castle and a children's program. Musical performances create a festive atmosphere. A charity raffle combines festive joy with charitable engagement — the proceeds benefit a selected World Heritage or non-profit project.
A free shuttle bus between the Marktkirche in Goslar and Rammelsberg allows for convenient travel without a private car. Additionally, a guided city tour with the Goslar Tourist Express (5 €) offers a tourist perspective of the World Heritage Old Town — an attractive addition to the World Heritage Day visit.
The 2026 edition, under the nationwide motto “Do Good and Talk About It,” invites the entire region to visit the UNESCO World Heritage sites free of charge and appreciate their significance.
