One of Germany's oldest street festivals – since 1977
The Theatrium – Wilhelmstraßenfest is one of the oldest and most traditional street festivals in Germany. It originated in 1977 as an accompanying festival for the reopening of the Hessian State Theatre and has since developed into a firm early summer classic. In 2026, the 47th edition will take place from June 12th to 14th. The organizer is Wiesbaden Congress & Marketing GmbH.
The venue is Wilhelmstraße – Wiesbaden's magnificent, 1.3-kilometer-long boulevard between the Hessian State Theatre and the Kurhaus, with its neoclassical and Wilhelminian-era facades. During the festival, around 240 stalls line the street: about 75 regional artisans and around 170 food and drink stalls offering culinary diversity from around the world. The event areas are complemented by Burgstraße, the Bowling Green, and the Kurpark.
On five stage locations – most notably the main stage at the Bowling Green in front of the Kurhaus – a varied program of ballet, street dance, live music, and shows unfolds. The famous Konzertmuschel (Concert Shell) in the Kurpark will also be used. The official opening will take place on Friday at 6 PM by Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende and Deputy Mayor Christiane Hinninger.
In 2026, an "Arena of Skills" will debut, presented by the Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL): Here, children can try out wheelchair basketball, parkour, and other adapted sports. Simultaneously, the TOGGO Kids' World in the Kurpark will be significantly expanded: play modules, interactive activities, and appearances by the TOGGO mascots.
Wiesbaden Congress & Marketing GmbH pursues a sustainability approach: all food and drink stalls use reusable or compostable tableware. Around 75 regional artisans present local products – a commitment to craftsmanship and against mass-produced goods.
Wiesbaden, the state capital of Hesse and one of Germany's most important spa towns, offers an outstanding festival backdrop. The Kurhaus with its casino, the Kurpark, the Hessian State Theatre, the Stadtschloss (City Palace) – landmarks from the Belle Époque of spa culture shape the cityscape. During the Wilhelmstraßenfest, these spaces become an open-air stage.
With more than 100,000 expected visitors, the Theatrium is Wiesbaden's largest street festival and one of the most important cultural summer events in the entire Rhine-Main region.
