Summer Festival at Mainz-Kastel Zoo 2026

The Mainz-Kastel Zoo is a volunteer-run meeting place between humans and animals on the outskirts of Mainz's Kastel district, which is organizationally part of the Hessian state capital Wiesbaden but belongs to the Mainz cityscape (so-called AKK districts). In the Petersberg Biotope, the association cares for a variety of animals – including donkeys, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry, and small animals – and makes the grounds accessible to families.

Summer Festival on July 26, 2026

The Summer Festival 2026 will take place on Sunday, July 26, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is one of the three seasonal festivals with which the association presents its work and its grounds to the public. Admission is free; donations are expressly welcome and will be used directly for animal care and the maintenance of the biotope.

Program for Families

The focus of the festival is on the animals and direct contact with them. For children, there will be face painting, play activities, and age-appropriate hands-on events. Snacks and drinks will be served from the wagon – a tradition that fits the rural atmosphere of the zoo.

Petersberg Biotope

The Petersberg Biotope is located on the outskirts of Mainz-Kastel and is easily accessible by public transport and car. In addition to the animal enclosures, the extensive grounds offer plenty of greenery, shade, and seating – ideal for a relaxing summer Sunday with the family.

Tierpark Mainz-Kastel e.V.

The association works exclusively on a voluntary basis and relies on donations, membership fees, and the proceeds from its events. The Summer Festival, along with the Spring Festival (May) and the Autumn Festival (September), is one of the three fixed seasonal dates.
