The Hanseatic City's Big City Festival

Lüneburg feiert is the annual summer festival that transforms the historic old town of the Hanseatic city into a four-day stage. From Thursday, June 4th, to Sunday, June 7th, 2026, over 70 bands will gather on seven stages for a 160-hour program — one of the densest and most diverse city festivals in Northern Germany.

Kick-off on Thursday

The official opening takes place on Thursday, June 4th, at 7:30 PM on the historic Market Square. Welcome by Mayor Kalisch, followed by the first stage program and the musical opening of the festival weekend.

Seven Stages, 70 Bands

The festival's concept: Instead of one main stage, various squares and corners of the city center are used. This allows visitors to discover different musical styles in different atmospheres — acoustic concerts on small squares, rock concerts on large stages, jazz in the churches, DJ sets at night. Over 70 bands will perform over the four days.

Experience Sunday

The traditional Experience Sunday on June 7th marks the conclusion: Lüneburg's shops will be open from 1 PM to 6 PM, with a program focused on families and a relaxed atmosphere. A shopping Sunday and festival day combined.

New in 2026: Day of Inclusion and Diversity

An important innovation in 2026 is the integrated Day of Inclusion and Diversity. The program, stands, and activities will focus on topics such as accessibility, LGBTQ+ visibility, and social diversity. This positions Lüneburg feiert as a modern, socio-politically engaged city festival.

Lüneburg's Old Town as a Festival Stage

The festival utilizes the unique architecture of Lüneburg's old town with its brick facades, alleys, squares, and churches. Visitors to the festival also get to experience the most beautiful corners of the Hanseatic city — a combination that makes Lüneburg feiert a special event.
