49th Town Festival in Altenhundem with free program on four stages
In the southern Sauerland, in the town of Lennestadt, which appears spread out with its 26,000 inhabitants across 16 districts, the Stadtfest takes place every August — and in 2026, it's the 49th edition. From August 15th to 16th, 2026, the district of Altenhundem (the largest and most centrally located district of Lennestadt) will transform into a festival ground with four stages, supported by around 200 Lennestadt clubs. Admission is completely free.
For years, the Stadtfest has relied on spatial differentiation with four stages offering different program focuses. Based on the previous year's edition in 2025 (48th Stadtfest):
The opening traditionally takes place on Friday evening at 7 PM with the classic barrel tapping. Mayor Tobias Puspas and Head of City Marketing Steffen Baumhoff will jointly open the event and thank the approximately 200 participating clubs — from sports and shooting clubs to carnival groups and social initiatives.
The exact 2026 program will be announced in mid-summer. Based on the proven structure and 2025 acts, expect:
Lennestadt extends over a wide area in the southern Sauerland — a logistical challenge for a town festival. The solution: Night shuttle buses from 2 AM from Lennestadt main station in three different directions, costing €5 per person. This allows visitors from all 16 Lennestadt districts to get home without relying on their own car — a feature that brings modern standards to the town festival culture of the Sauerland.
The town of Lennestadt was formed in 1969 through the merger of 16 former municipalities — Altenhundem, Bilstein, Elspe, Grevenbrück, Halberbracht, Kirchhundem, Maumke, Meggen, Oedingen, Saalhausen, among others — making it a prime example of the municipal reforms of the late 1960s. With just under 26,000 inhabitants, it is a medium-sized town in the southern Olpe district, characterized by its small and medium-sized businesses, tourism (hiking, winter sports), and the famous Elspe Festival tradition (Karl May plays).
The 49th edition of the Stadtfest Lennestadt continues the proven format: four stages, two days, ~200 participating clubs, free admission. The exact program will be released by Lennestadt City Marketing in mid-summer 2026 — based on the 2025 edition, expect rock bands on the Market Square, singer-songwriter programs on the HIT-Market stage, a darts tournament, and DJ sets. The established night shuttle service starts at 2 AM in three directions for the 16 scattered districts of Lennestadt.
Admission is completely free. Food and drinks at the club stands at moderate daily prices. Night shuttle from 2 AM costs €5 per person.
By train: Altenhundem station on the RB and RE line Hagen-Siegen, then walk to the city center. By car: A45 exit Olpe or Lüdenscheid, then B517/B55 to Lennestadt-Altenhundem.
Admission is completely free. Food and drinks at the daily prices of the stands.
From 2:00 AM, shuttle buses run from Altenhundem main station in three directions (Lennestadt districts, surrounding municipalities). Fare: €5 per person.
Those who enjoy live music should head to the Market Square main stage. The HIT-Market stage, in cooperation with the youth centers, is the place for discovering singer-songwriters and DJs — usually with a younger audience. The family focus is during the day, with the main stage program in the evening.
