Wilhelmshaven's Spring Funfair
The Spring Festival at the Sportforum is the largest spring funfair in the region and, for many Wilhelmshaven residents and people from surrounding districts, the traditional start to the open-air season. For nine days, the festival grounds at the Sportforum – right next to Nautimo – transform into a colorful world of rides, game stalls, and candy and snack stands. The organizer is the Wilhelmshaven Friesland e.V. Showmen's Association, which has been professionally ensuring a varied and safe experience for years.
Classic Rides and Game Stalls
The offerings range from classic rides – Ferris wheel, bumper cars, carousels, children's rides – to adrenaline-pumping attractions like the Crazy Mouse, the swing boat, and modern loopings. Game stalls with throwing games, shooting galleries, and lucky dips entice with plush toys and instant prizes. The candy stands offer cotton candy, roasted almonds, gingerbread hearts, and candied apples – a sensory funfair tradition that connects generations.
Food and Atmosphere
Bratwurst, fries, Schmalzkuchen (traditional doughnuts), crêpes, Reibekuchen (potato pancakes), and shashlik are staples of the funfair menu. Beer tents and sekt (sparkling wine) tents cater to adults, with plenty of non-alcoholic options also available. The atmosphere is friendly and family-oriented, with high activity on weekends and more relaxed visits on weekdays. The Spring Festival appeals to all ages – from toddlers on the chain carousel to grandmothers at the shooting gallery.
