SpontanOL — Oldenburg Improvisation Theatre Festival

SpontanOL is the annual gathering of the vibrant Oldenburg improvisation theatre scene into a concentrated festival program. Improvisation theatre is created without a fixed script—players react to cues from the audience, theme suggestions, or stage directions, developing short scenes, songs, or entire stories on stage.

Wild Card Show — March 13th, Unikum

The Wild Card Show opens the festival. Under the wild card principle, players from different groups take the stage, competing against or with each other in changing constellations. It's an open format that injects excitement into the festival's opening.

Impro-Show "OUT" — March 18th, Unikum

The show "OUT" on March 18th presents a distinct format. The title suggests stepping out of the usual paths—both programmatically and playfully. Details of the format are prepared by the respective performing group.

Oldenburg Impro Championship (OIM) — March 21st, Kulturetage Halle, 8 PM

The highlight of the festival is the Oldenburg Impro Championship, held on Saturday, March 21st, at 8 PM in the large Kulturetage Halle. Several teams compete against each other in a match format, with audience voting. A classic competitive format of improvisation theatre that celebrates playfulness and audience participation equally.

Venues Kulturetage Halle and Unikum

Kulturetage Halle, as a large venue, provides a fitting setting for the championship, while Unikum, with its intimate stage atmosphere, hosts the other festival shows. Both venues are located in the city center.

Dedicated Oldenburg Scene

Behind SpontanOL is an active improvisation scene with several permanent groups that perform year-round in Oldenburg. The festival is their annual meeting point and, at the same time, the stage on which the scene presents itself to a broader audience.
