Early Dance in Ammerland Style
The Spohler Frühtanz is part of a series of Ammerland May festivals that have been turning Labour Day into the biggest party of spring for decades. The venue is the Spohler Krug in the hamlet of Spohle, part of the municipality of Wiefelstede. Unlike its bigger sibling in Tange — the Pfingsten Frühtanz — Spohle remains manageable and strongly locally rooted.
2026 Edition on May 1st
The 2026 edition takes place on May 1st starting at 10 AM. The Maibaumfest tradition begins in the morning with Frühschoppen (morning pint), and at midday, it transitions into open-air dancing under the sky and in the hall of the Spohler Krug. Admission is for ages 16 and up.
What Visitors Can Expect
Live music and DJ sets define the day. The Maypole raising ceremony, Ammerland beer on tap, bratwurst, and hearty spring cuisine are integral components. The audience comes from all over the region — from Bad Zwischenahn and Westerstede to Oldenburg.
Wiefelstede — Between Oldenburg and Lake Zwischenahn
Wiefelstede is strategically located between Oldenburg and Lake Zwischenahn. Spohle, as a small hamlet, is typical of the Ammerland geest landscape with oaks, willows, and old inns — the Spohler Krug is one of these traditional meeting places.
