Lecture and Concert in the Baroque Monastery

The Speinsharttag has been a fixed date since 1980 for the Friends of Kloster Speinshart. The baroque Premonstratensian monastery of Speinshart in the northern Oberpfalz provides the setting for a day that traditionally consists of two program blocks: an afternoon lecture in the community hall and an evening choral concert in the monastery church.

Chorgemeinschaft St. Georg Pressath

For the main musical event in 2026, the Chorgemeinschaft St. Georg Pressath, conducted by Richard Waldmann, is responsible. The program includes works by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, the Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo, and John Rutter – the latter described as "currently perhaps the most important and popular composer of choral and church music" (monastery information).

What to Expect

  • 4:00 PM Lecture in the Speinshart Community Hall
  • 7:00 PM Choral Concert in the Monastery Church
  • Chorgemeinschaft St. Georg Pressath, conducted by Richard Waldmann
  • Works by Mendelssohn, Gjeilo, and Rutter
  • A blend of romantic choral works and contemporary sacred music

Kloster Speinshart in the Oberpfalz

Kloster Speinshart is located in the Neustadt an der Waldnaab district of Upper Palatinate, on the edge of the Franconian Switzerland and the northern Oberpfalz. The baroque monastery church is one of the most impressive sacred buildings in the region; the monastery is now inhabited again by Premonstratensians and engages in diverse educational and cultural activities. The Speinsharttag is one of the most important fundraising events for the Friends' association.

Speinsharttag — edition 2026

The 46th Speinsharttag will take place on Friday, July 10, 2026. The program includes a lecture in the community hall at 4:00 PM and an evening concert at 7:00 PM in the monastery church, performed by the Chorgemeinschaft St. Georg Pressath under the direction of Richard Waldmann, featuring works by Mendelssohn, Gjeilo, and Rutter.

The day begins at 4:00 PM with a lecture in the Speinshart community hall. At 7:00 PM, the choral concert will take place in the baroque monastery church. The Chorgemeinschaft St. Georg Pressath, accompanied by an instrumental ensemble, will perform under the direction of Richard Waldmann a program that blends romantic choral works with contemporary sacred music – featuring works by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, the Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo, and John Rutter.
