Overview

Until 2025 inclusive, the summer open-air musical of the Staatstheater Augsburg was performed on the traditional Red Gate open-air stage. Only due to the necessary renovation of the Red Gate stage was the venue moved to the new Gaswerk summer stage for 2026.

The summer theatre of the Staatstheater Augsburg was a fixture of the Augsburg summer for many years and took place on the historic Red Gate open-air stage – one of the most beautiful natural stages in Southern Germany, located amidst the ramparts. Performances were also held there in the summer season of 2025.

Structural defects subsequently necessitated a fundamental renovation of the Red Gate stage. For the 2026 season, the Staatstheater therefore moved the open-air musical for the first time to the newly built Gaswerk summer stage in Augsburg-Oberhausen.
