Sommernachtsfest Balzhausen (Fischereiverein)

A Fish Pond as a Festival Ground

Balzhausen is a small municipality in the southern district of Günzburg, within the Bavarian-Swabian administrative community of Thannhausen. The Balzhausen Fishing Club e.V. has managed its own club pond here for decades, which is used for fish husbandry and care, as well as for social gatherings. Once a year, the pond transforms into a small, atmospheric festival site: the Sommernachtsfest.

What Makes the Evening Special

The Sommernachtsfest begins in the late afternoon and lasts into the night. The club pond is atmospherically illuminated with lanterns and torches, and grilled fish – usually trout from their own stock – as well as steaks, sausages, and drinks are served in the marquee and under the pavilions. Coffee and cake are offered for the older generation, and there are play areas for children on the bank.

Weather-Dependent Club Festival

As with many open-air festivals in Bavaria, the Sommernachtsfest in Balzhausen is weather-dependent. In case of bad weather, it is postponed to the following Saturday – a backup date that the club officially announces. Balzhausen in the Günzburg District

Balzhausen lies between Krumbach and Thannhausen in the Mindel landscape, a hilly agricultural and pasture region in Bavarian Swabia.
