Electronic Open-Air in front of the Orangerie in Karlsaue
When the first beats rise in front of the baroque facade of the Orangerie on the last weekend of August, it's clear: The Solå Festival has officially ushered in summer in Kassel. The meadow in the Staatspark Karlsaue, a few steps from the documenta complex, is the venue for one of the largest electronic day festivals in northern Hesse.
The festival started in 2022 as an initiative of the Kassel promoter agency AC2B GmbH with the aim of establishing a top-class techno open-air in the shadow of the documenta city. It was a success: after just a few editions, Solå attracted around 14,000 visitors (as of 2025) – an indicator that Kassel is establishing itself as a techno location beyond the Frankfurt-Berlin axis.
Solå regularly brings top acts from the international techno and house scene. Monika Kruse, Pan-Pot, Schrotthagen, Mika Heggemann, and Lexer have graced the stage in recent years. The festival's strength lies in the combination of top-class international acts and a close, friendly atmosphere – not a huge multi-stage marathon, but focused open-air day enjoyment.
Karlsaue is part of the UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape of Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe – Kassel's oldest landscape park, laid out in the 17th century. The Orangerie itself now houses the Astronomical-Mathematical Cabinet. Techno taking place here against a baroque architectural backdrop is part of its charm – the park as a daytime backdrop with fountains, the swan pond, and old trees.
Ten hours of open-air enjoyment in front of the baroque Orangerie. The complete lineup for 2026 will be announced on the official festival website and social media channels in the months leading up to the festival. Typically, Solå editions feature a mix of international techno and house headliners and Kassel resident DJs.
The 2026 line-up will be announced in Spring/Summer 2026. For reference — acts that have played the festival in previous years:
