Sengwarder Markt – A Tradition Spanning 408 Years

The Sengwarder Markt is one of the oldest and most enduring folk festivals in northwestern Lower Saxony. This rural folk festival in the Wilhelmshaven district looks back on its 408th edition in 2026 and traditionally spans nine days at the end of August. With carousels, a beer tent, fairground attractions, and an accompanying program of tradition and modernity, the market is firmly anchored in the region's annual calendar.

The Marktlauf as a Sporting Kick-off

In recent years, the Sengwarder Marktlauf has established itself as a more recent accompanying event. The fun run format appeals to a broad audience: amateur runners, families, children, and ambitious recreational athletes. The routes lead through rural Sengwarden – past meadows, farms, and residential streets – utilizing the unique topography of northern Wilhelmshaven.
