Overview

The Schwetzinger Spargelsamstag 2025 once again gathered thousands of asparagus lovers in the city center. Schwetzingen caterers presented their asparagus dishes on the street, the Asparagus Queen hosted the performances, and the traditional peeling competition attracted professionals and hobby cooks to the SMS Stadtmarketing stand.

Asparagus Festival 2025

The Spargelsamstag 2025 continued the decades-long tradition: Schwetzingen's city center became a culinary mile, restaurants opened outdoor stands with their asparagus menus, winemakers from the Palatinate and Kraichgau served drinks. The Asparagus Queen of the season opened the festival and presented the prize for the peeling competition at the end.

Schwetzingen consciously positions itself as the Asparagus Capital — alongside Schrobenhausen in Bavaria and Beelitz in Brandenburg, it is one of the three most important asparagus growing regions in Germany. The Spargelsamstag has been the highlight of the season for decades, which in Schwetzingen traditionally runs from the start of asparagus harvesting in mid-April until St. John's Day on June 24.
