Marksmen Tradition in Zeven

Zeven is the second-largest city in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district and is considered the administrative and commercial center of the northern Lüneburger Heide. The Schützengesellschaft Zeven has long been part of the city's social fabric and organizes the Schützenfest at the Ahe shooting range annually. The event is part of the Zeven marksmen's district, which brings together numerous clubs in the region.

Bird and King Shooting

The sporting core of the festival consists of the bird and king shooting. The active participants gather to shoot down the wooden bird and determine the new monarchs. The competitions are open to the public and attract many spectators from Zeven and the surrounding areas.

Parade through Zeven

The parade through Zeven's city center is one of the most visible traditions of the Schützenfest. Marksmen in uniform, marching bands, friendly clubs, and the royal court march through the decorated streets. The population lines the route, and many houses are adorned with small flags.

Festival Tent and Folk Festival Atmosphere

The festival tent at the Ahe shooting range is the social hub of the festival weekend. Dance evenings with live music or DJ sets, morning pint gatherings, catering with beer, wine, and food, as well as a family program make the festival grounds a meeting point for the entire city.

Coronation of the New Monarchs

The highlight of the festival is the solemn proclamation and coronation of the new royal court. The royal court represents the marksmen's society in the following year at events, parades, and receptions.
