Three-day Schützenfest of the Schützenkorps Winsen since 1848 with Zapfenstreich and fireworks
The Schützenkorps Winsen (Luhe) was founded in 1848 during the March Revolution, making it one of the oldest marksmen's clubs in Lower Saxony. Over 175 years of club history make the Korps an institution that has shaped Winsen's social life since the 19th century. The connection to the town's history is close; the Korps sees itself as a guardian of Winsen's traditions.
Friday to Sunday form the framework of the festival. Friday opens with the king's shooting during the day and the Grand Zapfenstreich in the evening from 9 PM on Schlossplatz. Saturday features the parade and the king's ball, while Sunday concludes with Family Day, Frühschoppen, and proclamation.
The absolute highlight of the Winsen Korps festival is the Grand Zapfenstreich on Friday evening from 9 PM on the historic Schlossplatz Winsen. Against the historical backdrop of Winsen Castle, which will gleam festively for its 400th anniversary in 2026, the Schützenkorps marches in, the band plays traditional music, and spectacular fireworks over the castle provide the visual finale. A moment that draws thousands of spectators to Schlossplatz.
The king's shooting on Friday determines the new majesties of the Korps. The parade on Saturday leads the Korps in historical uniforms, accompanied by the band and invited neighbouring clubs, through Winsen's town centre, past the Marstall, Castle, and Town Hall. A traditional sight in the heart of the district town.
The king's ball on Saturday evening at Schützenhaus Winsen with a live band draws the club family and locals to the dance floor until late into the night. Sunday is especially for families, with a children's king's shooting, carousels, games, and the festive proclamation in the afternoon.
The 2026 edition continues the almost 180-year tradition of the Schützenkorps. The Zapfenstreich on Schlossplatz with fireworks is one of the most watched and photographed events in Winsen, attracting thousands of spectators from the town and region every year.
The combination of tradition and visual staging – marksmen in historical uniforms, band, torches, fireworks in front of the castle – makes this festival particularly appealing.
