Shooting Tradition in Lichtenberg

Salzgitter-Lichtenberg is a historically shaped district in the Thiede borough. The place is primarily known for Lichtenberg Castle, the remains of which date back to the 12th century and shape the village's identity. As in most rural districts of Salzgitter, the annual Schützenfest is one of the most important highlights of club life and an event where the village community becomes visible.

Organiser

The Schützenverein Salzgitter-Lichtenberg belongs to the Kreisschützenverband Salzgitter. The association cultivates competitive shooting as well as the preservation of local tradition: annual king shooting, laying of wreaths, participation in the Heimatkreis Lichtenberg (Local District Association) and involvement in the castle restoration.

Classic Schedule

The Schützenfest follows the pattern common in Northern Germany, which is also maintained in Lichtenberg:

• Bird shooting – Determination of the new shooting king/queen
• Proclamation of the King – in the marquee with the awarding of the king's chain
• Festive Parade – through the village center with a marching band and clubs
• Dance Evenings with live band
• Frühschoppen on Sunday morning
• King's Dinner as a social highlight
• Laying of Wreaths at the war memorial
