Neumehringen as a Salzbergen Marksmen's Club
The Neumehringen Marksmen's Club is part of the network of seven Salzbergen marksmen's clubs. With its festival date on the second Monday in June — corresponding to a weekend from Saturday to Monday — the club is among the early June festivals, falling between the May festivals of Lemkershook and the later June festivals of the other Salzbergen clubs. Salzbergen's marksmen's culture is one of the densest and most vibrant in the region, and each club has its fixed date in the common festival calendar.
Three Days of Celebration in June
The 2026 festival spans three days, from Saturday, June 15th to Monday, June 17th. Saturday marks the festive opening with the assembly of the marksmen, a parade, and a grand marksmen's ball in the evening. Sunday is dedicated to the King's shoot, the proclamation of the King, and the King's dance. Monday concludes the festival weekend with the King's dinner and a festive closing. Catering is provided throughout in the festival tent, and local music bands provide the festive accompaniment.
King's Shoot and Tradition
As with all Emsland marksmen's festivals, the King's shoot is the central sporting and symbolic highlight. During the shoot at the wooden bird, marksmen compete for the title of King. Whoever shoots the last splinter off is proclaimed King and chooses his Queen. The new King and Queen represent the club for a year at guest festivals and events and carry the club's banner on festive occasions.
Embedded in Salzbergen's Marksmen's Culture
The reciprocal visits of the Salzbergen clubs and the shared festival calendar create a lively festival scene that intensely shapes the community from May to August. The Neumehringen club maintains close contacts with the other Salzbergen clubs as well as with friendly marksmen's clubs in the wider Emsland region and the neighboring Münsterland.
