Traditional citizens' shooting festival in the Bad Laer district of Remsede with pre-celebration and king's shoot
The Bürgerschützenverein Remsede e.V. (BSV) is one of the significant shooting clubs in the Teutoburger Wald shooting district. Its annual shooting festival is not just a club festival but also a village community experience. Preparations begin days before the actual festival: the marquee and shooting ranges are set up, wagons are decorated, oak wreaths are tied, and the officers' festive attire is checked. The Bürgerschützenverein combines shooting sports tradition with the preservation of customs and social engagement in the community.
The centerpiece of the festival is the king's shoot, where the new shooting king is determined. The coronation of the majesties, the subsequent proclamation of the king, and the king's dinner for the club members are among the most emotional moments of the shooting tradition. The grand festive parade, during which the club marches through the Remsede district in uniform with a musical band, making stops at prominent locations, is also firmly established.
The festival traditionally begins with a pre-celebration on the eve, where club members and guests are warmed up in a convivial atmosphere. On the festival days, there is a dance evening with live music, a morning pint (Frühschoppen) on Sunday or Monday morning, and a family day with activities for the youngest guests. The Remsede shooting festival is one of the annual highlights in the event calendar of the Teutoburger Wald shooting district.
The pre-celebration on Monday, May 25, 2026, kicks off the festival with a convivial warm-up for club members. The actual festival days run from Thursday, May 28, to Sunday, May 31, 2026. The king's shoot will be organized on Thursday, Friday will focus on the club evening and dance events, Saturday will feature the grand festive parade, and Sunday will offer a morning pint and the convivial end of the festival.
The program follows the proven stages of Lower Saxony's shooting customs: a ceremonial assembly at the festival grounds, the king's shoot, proclamation of the majesties, king's dinner for club members, a festive parade with a musical band through Remsede, and a grand dance evening in the Schützenhalle.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years: bird shoot or king's shoot, king's dinner, festive parade, dance evening, family day, and morning pint.
