Three days of Schützenfest in the historic old town of Nideggen — parade, king's shooting, coronation ball
When the marksmen's clubs march through the historic old town of Nideggen on June 20th, 2026, it's time for the Schützenfest: three days of tradition in a town whose cityscape is shaped by its medieval castle and narrow streets. The organizer is the Nideggen Business Association (GGN), an economic and customs association that coordinates town events.
According to the GGN, the Schützenfest offers three days of events with all the classic elements:
The festival tent at Zülpicher Tor — one of the preserved historic city gates — is the central stage of the festival. Its location directly at the entrance to the old town makes the tent a natural meeting point for marksmen, residents, and visitors. Live music, caterers, and the program converge here.
Nideggen is located in the Düren district in North Rhine-Westphalia, in the middle of the North Eifel Park and on the southern edge of the Rur dam. The small town with its mighty castle ruins is one of the most atmospheric castle towns in the Eifel and has been a tourist destination for centuries. The Schützenfest is one of the annual events where town identity and club life merge — and where the historic streets show their festive side.
The 2026 edition of the Nideggen Schützenfest offers the classic three-day program with all components — parade, king's shooting, Frühschoppen, coronation. The festival tent is located at Zülpicher Tor, one of the preserved historic city gates. The GGN coordinates the festival days together with the local clubs.
Admission to the parade and festival tent is free. Coronation Ball may require tickets — information available from the GGN.
Nideggen is accessible by the Rurtalbahn (RB21) from Düren. By car via the B265 or the L11 from Heimbach. Parking is available on the outskirts of town — the old town is partially closed during the festival.
Admission to the parade and festival tent is free. Individual evening events (coronation ball) may have an admission fee.
If you want to soak up the atmosphere of the old town, come for the Sunday parade — the procession through the medieval streets is particularly visually appealing. A climb to the castle ruins before or after the Schützenfest is worthwhile — the view over the Rur valley is impressive.
