Flecken Liebenau

Liebenau is a small town — in Lower Saxon dialect, a „Flecken” — in the southwestern district of Nienburg/Weser. Liebenau belongs to the municipality of Mittelweser and is located near the Bückeburg region. The Flecken status gives Liebenau a special municipal identity between village and town.

Schweizerlust Shooting Range

The venue is the „Schweizerlust” shooting range at Schweizerlust 1 — a traditional shooting facility on the outskirts of Liebenau, whose unusual name harks back to an older romantic garden tradition. The shooting range has the necessary facilities, a club house, and a festival meadow that can accommodate the festival tent and catering.

Tradition on the First Weekend of July

The Liebenau Schützenfest follows a long-standing tradition on the first weekend of July: in 2024 from July 5th to 7th, in 2025 from July 4th to 6th. For 2026, the exact date is expected in spring 2026 and will be announced via the Mittelweser municipality and the Flecken Liebenau. It is assumed that the first weekend of July or an adjacent date will also be chosen in 2026.

Program Tradition

The festival follows the classic North German Schützenfest tradition with an opening on Friday, the main shooting competition and proclamation of the king on Saturday, a grand parade on Sunday, dance evenings, a family afternoon, and the king's ball. Invited are friendly shooting clubs from the Mittelweser municipality, from Stolzenau and Hoya, as well as from the neighboring Schaumburg region.

Organization by the Flecken

A special feature is that the festival is organizationally supported by the Flecken Liebenau — that is, by the municipal administration in cooperation with the local shooting club. This close collaboration between the municipality and the club underscores the identity-forming significance of the Schützenfest for the entire community of Liebenau.
