Whitsun Schützenfest in Holtum (Geest)
Holtum (Geest) is a district of the municipality of Kirchlinteln in the district of Verden — however, the district of Rotenburg (Wümme) (PLZ 27308) is responsible here. The Schützenverein Holtum (Geest) has long maintained the village shooting tradition and organizes the annual Whitsun Schützenfest. The festival weekend shapes village life and brings together club members, friendly clubs, and the village population at the Schulhof.
King's Procession on Saturday
The event kicks off with the King's procession on Saturday, May 23rd, at 1:30 PM. The reigning Queen or King is ceremoniously collected with the royal court and introduced to the festival community. Music bands, friendly clubs, and the members' shooting club uniforms characterize the procession through the village. After the procession, a long festival evening awaits in the marquee, ending around 11:00 PM.
Katerfrühstück on Whitsun Sunday
A special tradition of the Holtum Schützenfest is the Katerfrühstück on Whitsun Sunday at 10:00 AM. After a night of celebration, the marksmen and guests gather for a hearty breakfast with Bockwurst, eggs, bread, beer, and coffee. The atmosphere is relaxed, and anecdotes from the night are exchanged.
Schützenfest at the Schulhof
After the Katerfrühstück, the Schützenfest continues at the Schulhof Holtum (Geest). Bird shooting, King shooting, a family program, a dance evening, and the crowning of the new majesties characterize Sunday. The Schulhof setting gives the festival a particularly village-like, personal character.
King Proclamation
The highlight is the ceremonial proclamation and crowning of the new majesties. Whoever hits the decisive piece in the bird or King shooting becomes the new King or Queen. The royal court represents the club in the following year.
