Hoheneggelsen Marksmen's Guild since 1848
The Schützengilde Hoheneggelsen von 1848 e. V. is one of the oldest marksmen's associations in the Hildesheim district. Almost 180 years of club history make the guild a central pillar of village traditions in Hoheneggelsen. The annual Schützenfest is the highlight of the club year and an important community-building event for the village and the municipality of Söhlde.
Hoheneggelsen and Söhlde
Hoheneggelsen is one of the districts of the municipality of Söhlde in the eastern Hildesheim district. The municipality, with its several districts, has a vibrant club landscape in which marksmen's clubs, fire brigades, sports, and cultural associations shape social life. The Hoheneggelsen Schützenfest is one of the most important dates in the Söhlde event calendar.
Program Highlights
As with most North German Schützenfeste, the program includes: the bird shooting contest, where the new marksmen's king is determined; the proclamation of the king; the grand parade through the village, accompanied by brass bands and associations; the king's dinner; dance evenings with live music or a DJ; a morning pint or family day to conclude. The exact program is put together each year by the Schützengilde with its members and helpers.
Traditional Date in July
The Hoheneggelsen Schützenfest traditionally takes place on the third weekend in July. In past years, the dates were: 2023 from July 14th to 16th, 2024 from July 19th to 21st, 2025 from July 18th to 20th. The date for 2026 will be published by the Schützengilde in spring 2026 and will likely follow the same pattern.
Festival Grounds and Marquee
The festival grounds, marquee, and shooting range are set up in the center of Hoheneggelsen. The marquee is the central venue for the king's dinner and dance evenings. The shooting range is available for the bird shooting contest and the guild members' competitions. Catering stands provide beer, soft drinks, hot food, and sweets.
Vibrant Marksmen Tradition
Like many Schützenfeste in Lower Saxony, the Hoheneggelsen festival is much more than just a marksmen's competition. It is the most important community-building event of the district, a meeting point for former residents who travel from all over the region, and proof of the still-vibrant marksmen tradition in the eastern Hildesheim district.

The festival follows the established cornerstones of a North German Schützenfest and is one of the most important summer dates in the municipality of Söhlde.
