Traditional Schützenfest of the Hodenhagen Marksmen's Association with King's Shoot, parade, and family program
The Hodenhagen Marksmen's Association was formed in 1949 from the merger of two predecessor clubs, boasting over 75 years of club history. The clubhouse, equipped with shooting facilities, is located at Volksloh 5 on the outskirts of Hodenhagen, a community widely known beyond the Lüneburg Heath region thanks to the Serengeti-Park.
The Schützenfest is the highlight of the club's year. The 2026 club calendar notes July 11th as Marksmen's Day in Hannover, with an explicit reference to the 2026 Schützenfest. Based on experience, the Schützenfest itself is celebrated over several days around this date. Other dates shaping club life include the bird shoot on May 31st, the ladies' consolation prize shoot on June 10th, the Fasenschießen on June 17th, and the carriage and ball-throwing tours on June 28th.
The bird shoot is one of the oldest marksmen's traditions and will take place on the club grounds on May 31st, 2026. Whoever shoots the wooden bird off the pole will be proclaimed the new Marksmen's King. The ladies' consolation prize shoot and Fasenschießen are further competitions that underscore the club's convivial character.
During the Schützenfest weekend itself, marksmen's companies, marching bands, and music groups form up for a parade through the town. Afterward, the King's Ball is celebrated in the festival tent, where the new Marksmen's King, the Queen, and their adjutants are honored.
Hodenhagen is located in the Heidekreis district and is easily accessible thanks to its connection to the A7 motorway. In addition to the Serengeti-Park, the Aller river and extensive heathland are part of the community's tourist profile. The Schützenfest is an integral part of social life and regularly attracts visitors from surrounding villages.
The 2026 club year is marked by a dense sequence of shooting events. The main events are the bird shoot at the end of May, smaller shooting competitions in June, and the actual Schützenfest around July 11th.
Expect the King's Proclamation, parade, King's Ball, and family program following the proven format of the Heide region.
