Hassel is one of the districts of the municipality of Eldingen (Samtgemeinde Lachendorf), east of Celle. Like many heath villages in the Celle district, social life in Hassel is largely supported by the Schützenverein — a club that shapes the village community over generations and organizes the annual Schützenfest as its most important club event.

Schützenfest on the May 1st Weekend

With the date from May 1st to 3rd, 2026, Hassel utilizes the May Day holiday weekend — a traditional start to the Schützenfest season in the Celle district. Three days of festivities in a region where almost every weekend from May to September sees a Schützenverein celebrating. The Celle District Marksmen's Association coordinates the dates so that neighboring clubs can visit each other.

Tradition Over Three Days

The program follows the proven three-day structure of Lower Saxony's heath Schützenfeste: Friday festival opening with the assembly of the marksmen and a dance evening. Saturday king's shooting competition with the proclamation of the new king and queen and a festival ball in the marquee. Sunday parade through the village, Frühschoppen, and a relaxed end to the festival. Family and children's programs complement the festival calendar.
