Haselünne — Hasestadt with dense marksmen's culture
Haselünne, the historic Hasestadt in the southern Emsland, looks back on centuries of history and is home to an exceptionally dense marksmen's culture with at least four independent Schützenvereine. Each association cultivates its own festivals and traditions but is closely connected through their shared town affiliation. The Schützenverein Haselünne Stadtmark e.V. is one of these traditional associations and holds its main festival at the end of June.
Two days of festivities at the end of June
The 2026 festival spans two days, from Saturday, June 27 to Sunday, June 28. Saturday marks the festive opening with the assembly of the marksmen, a festive parade through the district, and a grand Schützenball in the evening. Sunday is dedicated to the King's shooting, the King's proclamation, and the King's dinner. Catering is provided in the festival tent, and local bands provide the festive accompaniment.
King's shooting and tradition
The King's shooting is the central sporting and symbolic highlight of the Schützenfest. During the shooting at the wooden bird, the marksmen compete for the royal dignity. Whoever shoots down the last splinter is proclaimed King and chooses his Queen. The new royal couple will represent the Schützenverein Haselünne Stadtmark for one year at guest festivals and events.
Embedded in Haselünne's marksmen's culture
In addition to the Stadtmark association, Haselünne is home to the Schützenbruderschaft (Pentecost festival in the Stadtmark settlement), the Schützenverein Stadtmark-Siedlung West (second weekend in July), the Schützenverein Eltern (June), and others. The mutual visits and joint activities of the associations create a vibrant festival life that significantly shapes the Hasestadt from May to July.
